The cool part is that I am creating content much like I do here on Wine Tonite! So, it seems appropriate that I should be able to bring that content more easily to our friends here and point you to all the cool things I am working on. Of course, readers may not be fans of any of the brands I write for, however, most of my content is centered around wine education, wine country activities, food and the like so I think there is still fun stuff to check out. Additionally, I will still bring some fresh wine and wine country insights directly and specifically to Wine Tonite!

Below I have outlined the brands I am working with and where you can find/follow information authored by me. In future posts, I will post summaries of content I have created for some of those brands here if I feel it is something you may be interested in reading about. With budbreak just around the corner I expect a lot of cool things to be happening in the vineyard and around the Napa and Sonoma valley, so be prepared to share the ride.

Would love any feedback on the idea and the subsequent posts. Of course, I encourage you to follow along directly on the other blogs.

Today we’re talking about Languedoc-Roussillon, which is a region in the south of France along the Mediterranean Sea that runs from the cities Perpignan, up through Montpellier and to Nimes. You might be surprised to learn that it boasts the world’s largest vineyard area totalling about 750,000 acres. As you can imagine, being along the Mediterranean, the area has what is called a “Mediterranean” climate which is fairly moderate and pretty good for grape growing. How ingenious. Average temperatures are around 57F while the summers can reach upwards of 85F. Their primary red grapes are Carignan and Grenache Noir while the major whites consist of Chardonnay and Grenache Blanc.

But, enough of the viticultural lesson. Today, a brand consortium representing wine and agricultural producers from the Languedoc-Roussillon named Sud de France held a synchronized tasting around the globe of 5 wines that were previously shipped to 90+ bloggers and journalists in 24 countries. Their goal was to provide a diverse experience of the types of wines that represent the region and to continue increasing awareness of their producers via “innovative promotional measures.” This blogger was a recipient of said wines [disclaimer: these wines were provided free as samples] and was gladly capable of checking them out and give to you, our humble readership, a view into an area of France that is probably lesser known than Bordeaux and Burgundy, but can bring tremendous value and a variety of styles to the cost conscious. Here we go… from my Twitter stream and beyond:

NV Sieur d’Arques Cremant de Limoux Brut Grand Cuvee 1531: Average value on CellarTracker is about $10-11 and consists of the standard blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Mauzac. Crisp, tart granny smith apples. Great brunch bubbly. Surprised wife with a flute at the door when she came home… #game #on

Fruite Catalan Cotes du Roussillon: Called “The French Fruity Wine” had aromas of strawberry Bubblicious bubble-gum and raspberries. The color was the darkest pink I have ever seen in a Rose blend. Not a fan.

2008 Girard Bertrand Cigalus Blanc - Golden and bright with aromas of lemon, passion fruit and mineral. This averages $30 according to wine searcher and trending up since 04.. I’d buy for a little less. Love the minerality. My favorite of the day.

2006 Domain Dromadaire “30670″ - Dark purple, medium density hue… aromas of barnyard… needs more decanter time. After a few hours, less horsey, still old world. Blackberries and leather and a touch of spice on the finish.

2006 Mas de Madame Muscat de Frontignan - Awesome peach, apricot and floral aromas… Nice, bright yellow color, add honeysuckle to aroma list, much RS, my guess 3-5%, probably much more. Made from Muscat a Petits Grains, this is considered a Vins Doux Naturels (sweet fortified wines), yet the alcohol was only 15.5%. It was a tad sweet for me, simple syrupy, a hint of spice at the end — nice for those who enjoy a sweeter wine

Wow! That’s all I can say about the blur that was the 2nd annual Wine Blogger’s Conference held in Sonoma, CA. As a first-timer, I was very impressed with the agenda and the events that were held… and I was even more impressed with meeting my fellow bloggers face-to-face for the first time. To share everything with you may take a few posts, but don’t worry, we’ve got nothing but time in this world, right? And as long as you have a glass of wine in your hand, it’s all good.

First, I need to thank the Open Wine Consortium and Zephyr Wine Adventures for orchestrating such a jam-packed weekend. The only feedback I have is that wi-fi and bandwidth availability should be a pretty high-priority on the list for next year’s event and let’s please add in some time between sessions for networking and collaboration. Additionally, all the sponsors listed here must be thanked for making this thing even possible. Thanks to them, all our glasses were kept full and several wineries allowed us to visit.

Here are some wineries and winemakers I was able to chat with and get a feel for what it’s like standing in their shoes and hopefully they were able to get a feel for what social media can do for them. Please check them out!

Randall Graham (“The Original Rhone Deranger”) – Bonny Doon — Great website, by the way!

Jennifer Higgins – Lancaster Estate - So laid back and fun… I’ll have more on my visit to Lancaster Estate later…

Peter Spann – Spann Vineyards - Great engagement story, just ask @RickBakas

Lesley Russell – St. Supery- Recently hired a Director of Social Media (Rick Bakas)

Greg La Follette – Tandem – Just love the cycling reference

Linzi Gay – Clif Family Winery & Farm – Here’s another extreme sport reference, I can’t help it. Here’s an earlier interviewwith Sarah Gott — p.s. her Syrah at the WBC rawk’d!

Jac Cole – Spring Mountain Vineyard- One of the oldest wineries in the area and Bee-you-tiful!

Finally, here are some new friends that I met that you should definitely follow online if you want to know anything about wine or social media in the wine industry… I can say I learned quite a lot by talking with these wonderful people – again, this may not be a complete list and may take a few posts to share:

We will be in Santa Rosa for the 2nd annual Wineblogger’s Conference this weekend (7/24-26) and then four days of nothing but tasting and touring the vineyards with some early morning road bike rides as well. OH GLORIOUS DAYS!!! Our hub is the Vintners Inn just north of Santa Rosa and if you’ve got a favorite winery, please comment and let us know… we may just decide to drop by and we’ll tell you how it was.
