Who’s Ready for a Pinot Noir Smackdown?

If you are a certifiable Pinotphile, then you have absolutely no excuse for missing this exclusive Twitter Community Wine Tasting event!  On the heels of successful tasting events #Chardonnay, #WAMerlot and #WAwine, Pinot Noir lovers will have their day this summer.  It has been shown that these events have created hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of impressions for wine brands around the globe.  Never mind the fact they are just freaky fun!

For those new to social media, a Twitter Tasting is simply when people who love wine gather socially both at physical locations, such as wineries, wine shops and their own homes, and virtually via Twitter turning the event into one big wine party!  Throughout the event, wine-lovers from across the country and the globe will share their thoughts on the wines they’ve chosen to drink on this night on Twitter and “conversing” with like-minded connoisseurs.  It’s a captive audience totally focused on wine.

Now is the time for Pinot Noir to shine and I invite and emphatically encourage you to join in the festivities and reap the benefits.  We are hosting a Pinot Noir Twitter Community Tasting on July 15, 2010 from 5p-7p PT/8p–10p ET.  To register please go to http://pinotnoir.eventbrite.com/ where there are also some basic instructions on how to get started on Twitter.  More importantly, you will want to consider planning an event at your winery and/or your favorite local wine merchant to share your wines and this cool experience with others.  Some wineries have even put together discounted “taste packs” available for sale from their websites specifically for these types of events.

We did say it was also a Smackdown, didn’t we?  So, who makes the best or your favorite Pinot?  To vote via your tweets simply add another 2-character hashtag after #PinotNoir and we’ll count the votes so that region gets bragging rights for the night!

Some notables:
#WV – Willamette Valley, Oregon
#NV – Napa Valley, CA
#RR – Russian River Valley, CA
#CN – Carneros, CA
#SB – Santa Barbara, CA
#SN – Sonoma Coast, CA
#MN – Mendocino, CA
#SC – Santa Cruz, CA
#GV – Green Valley, CA
#BU – Burgundy, FR
#NZ – New Zealand
#xx – Add your own!

For example, if you’re favorite Pinot is from Carneros, simply tag the end of your tweets with:      #PinotNoir #CN
Who do you think will WIN???

The online world will be paying attention to Pinot Noir between now and July 15th, so you won’t want to miss the opportunity to plan something special, expand your brand awareness and build relationships that can help your business for years to come.  If you have any questions or need any help, please do not hesitate to contact me (ethralls@winetonite.com).  You can find more information about Twitter Community Wine Tastings on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/TasteAndTweet and be sure to pass this on to other Pinotophiles you know!
