World Wine Tour 2010: A Wine Charity Project

In current global circumstances people and organizations are shelling out less money for good causes, which is understandable yet unfortunate at the same time.  It’s times like these when many are in need the most.  Yet, here is a project that’s been around since 2003 named “Vignes san Frontiere,” or vines without borders, in which a set of wine connoisseurs travel the globe with the quest of obtaining bottles of wine from the wineries they visit along the way, charging forward to make a difference.

This year, two young individuals from the Netherlands, Georges and Anja, are the lucky travelers and explained their charge in the recent issue of Mutineer Magazine, who happens to be one of their sponsors.  They’ve been busy for a year already planning their itinerary and wooing sponsors to help fund the project.  Their goal is to raise over $150,000 for the Lao Rehabilition Foundation, Inc. that provides various humanitarian support in the country of Laos including a school for the blind, medical care missions and building schools.

To keep everyone involved in their travels, Georges and Anja will be blogging via the World Wine Tour 2010 website and have also set up Twitter and Facebook accounts.  With only 150 followers and 67 fans currently, I am a little surprised that the team has not taken more advantage of social media marketing and tools.  Better late than never, I suppose.  Regardless, this sounds like a wonderful challenge with wine involved and great objective to help those in need in the end.  They will wrap up the tour with a charity auction to be held at Robert Mondavi Winery in 2011.

Please share with others and follow along.  Have you ever had a wine from Vietnam?

Cheers!

Great post Ed. I too am surprised that they have less of a Social Media presence, given the amazing project they are embarking upon. tsk tsk. Thanks for yet another great read.
