French Revolution

How do you try to improve your country’s image and build interest in your country’s most famous wares in the economic downturn?  You pay other countries to host wine and cheese parties, if you are the French!

Check out this story about how you could be a lucky party host and have most of your party paid for by the French.  Of course, you have to peddle French wine and cheese, but so what?  I like those.

I think this idea is kind of clever, though you are never sure what to expect from these companies that use party hosts like contractors and then make them buy their party stuffs from their company… almost smells like an Amway thing to me at times, which I’ve always been skeptical of.  However, I might actually consider applying for this.  If you like to host parties and are into wine, why not?

The catch is that you have to be willing to take pictures and blog about your experience.  They are definitely being clever trying to build some internet/social networking buzz as part of this deal.  I’m surprised Gary V didn’t come up with this idea!

Here’s the WSJ article on this idea.  The party is June 4th, so hurry up!  http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124052234831749871.html

What bugs me about this is that they’ve seemingly dumbed it down to what they think people will like. Anytime people do that instead of showing what they are most proud of (in a certain price range), I think it backfires.
