Gettin’ Educated

Time sure does fly when you’re having fun… that is, if you like spending all your free time memorizing the 1855 classification or what the main grape of Italy’s 1st DOC wine is, etc.  I’ve been slacking on writing duties in our blog here because I’ve been doing just that in an attempt to obtain a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) certification.  Ok, so memorizing the 1855 growths is not my thing either, but I am learning quite a bit about wine, how it’s made and where it’s from.  Sure, maybe I might consider enhancing my career (which is in banking software) and find something related to wine to work with or maybe even transition entirely to the industry down the road, who knows.  What I do know, is that learning something new about something you are passionate about is fun and cool.  Taking a class is also a great way to get your mind off of the day-to-day grind and all the bad news in the world.  So, today’s lesson is: find a class for a hobby or something you’re passionate about.  You can probably find some leisure courses at your local Parks & Recreation department — I took fly fishing one spring.  Here’s a couple I’ve attended as it relates to wine.  UC-Davis has some topics for distance learners.  Cheers!
