I am generally a red wine drinker… you know, the big Cabs from California, a Pinot Noir from Oregon, or even a Shiraz. However, in the past 2 years, my wife has really converted me over to experiencing more with white wines, especially during the hot summer months down here in the south. We recently obtained a Bianco (white wine) from Portugal from Casal Garcia. It’s their Vinho Verde and it was very refreshing.
- At first sight, it has a blue-ish/green (like silver) hue with some small bubbles (similar to a sparkling wine, but not as much).
- The nose was fruity with some citrus and lemon grass coming through.
- The taste was only slightly sweet (I was expecting much more pucker – which I don’t like in white wines, personally), light petulance (spritz from the bubbles), subtle and crisp… again, very refreshing when it’s 90+ degrees outside. It kind of reminded me of a Pinot Gris, or similar
- It’s only 10.5% alcohol and cost only $7.99! at one of our local wine/beverage stores
If you give it a try, come back and let us know what you thought! Remember: this are no right or wrong answers here.
